Six hotel sites are scheduled for development between the small beach houses and the old oaks. St. Simons has been a summer vacation destination for wealthy Georgians for more than 100 years.

Ever wondered what it's like on Mackinaw Island minus all the tourists?
The Grand Hotel is offering winter travelers a chance to find out by opening March 1, more than two months earlier than ever before.
Only the 42-room Millennium wing will be rentable, so don't expect the full-blown summer experience with multi-course meals in the dining room.
But for a special rate of $119 per night, guests may stay in the new wing, on the hotel's east end, which opened four years ago with separate utility hook-ups from the rest of the historic resort. The package, available through May 5, includes a breakfast delivered to each guest room.
